Week of Aug. 12: Hoda Kotb, Second Line Brewing and Poboy Fest

Happy birthday to journalist and TV personality Hoda Kotb who recently celebrated her 60th! And while she is now known for the “Today Show” and Hoda & Jenna, she will always be one of our original “People to Watch” during her time as a WWLTV reporter and anchor. Cheers!

Second Line Brewing recently released their latest brew, just in time for parents’ and educators’ back to school weekend enjoyment. Their strawberry and soursop brew is available in the taproom and for filling up growlers to take home.

Summer sunflowers take on new meaning with this latest art installation on the Lafitte Greenway. Located at N. Prieur and the Greenway, “Ketleflower” was created by artist Josh Pitts and is now permanent as part of the City of New Orleans Percent for Art Program, managed by Arts New Orleans. The 12-foot-tall flower will soon also feature a light and sound display. Walk, run, bike or stroll on by and take a peek.

Although it seems a long way away, Oak Street Poboy Fest is actually just around the corner. Now is the time to save the date for the event on Oct. 27, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m and get your early bird wristbands. The annual event benefits Son of a Saint, showcases the best poboys in town and gives us a fall goal to get us through the last (and most intensely hot days) of summer.

Episode 1 of Season 2 of our “Beyond the Kitchen” podcast is out now featuring Brasa, Baru, Basin and Zocalo Chef and Restaurateur Edgar Caro. Find out what inspires his cooking, what he has coming up for COOLinary and what his guilty snack pleasure is. Plus catch us each Wednesday for a new look into restaurant kitchens during the month of August.
