It’s COOLinary time in New Orleans. It’s the best time to try out some new restaurants or visit old favorites and support local businesses. Plus, to celebrate their anniversary, event organizers are teaming up with Second Harvest Food Bank by asking diners to make a voluntary donation, which will then be matched by New Orleans & Company. Great food, great deals and a great cause? It’s a win-win-win. Check out the official COOLinary site for all of the great deals across the city. And be sure to tip your servers well!
Fig Newtons can be a divisive cookie for some, but I love them. So, imagine how excited I was to see La Boulangerie level up one of my childhood favorites. I can’t wait to stock on these gourmet versions by Chef Maggie Scales!
The iconic Carousel Bar at Hotel Monteleone is one of my favorite stops to bring visitors to New Orleans. It’s been (slowly) spinning since 1949 and serving up classic cocktails for lazy sipping. As it celebrates its anniversary, the bar is rolling out a series of events. Legendary Beverage Manager Marvin Allen will be teaching a how-to cocktail series coming up on August 14 at 10 a.m. Classes are $75 per person and are exclusive to guests, so time to plan that staycation now!
Shout out to local independent bookshop Baldwin & Co. for their recent NPR profile. The store was recognized in celebration of the 100th birthday of its namesake, author James Baldwin, and its efforts to create community in New Orleans. Check out the story here and stop by the shop to spread some love.
Be sure to catch season two of our Behind the Kitchen podcast, premiering this Wednesday. We sit down to chat with some top New Orleans chefs to find out what’s cooking in their restaurants, what it’s like to be a chef in the city and get inside information on their guilty pleasures. And as always, be sure to like and subscribe!
Lastly, nothing to see here but a heartwarming kitten rescue thanks, in part, to a Popeye’s box!
