We have entered into “Deep Gras,” that time when New Orleans collectively goes a bit mad, in the best and most festive way.
Mark your calendar for the annual “Greasing of the Poles” this Friday, Feb. 9, at 10 a.m. at the Royal Sonesta New Orleans. This year’s theme is “The R’evolution of Greasing,” a “celebration of the long-standing and recently relaunched Restaurant R’evolition,” according to a recent press release. Bryan Batt will serve as host and master of ceremonies with guest judges Chef John Folse, executive chef of Restaurant R’evolution; the Honorable Steve Bordner; Saints super fan Whistle Monsta, aka Leroy Mitchell; and Moët Hennessy USA Director of Trade Advocacy Liz Batsche. The 2024 pole greasing competitors are reality TV superstar Trishelle Cannatella (featured on the current season of “Traitors”); TikTok F&B trendsetter Triece Tabb, aka @BukuTriece; the beloved 610 Stomper, Dan “Maude” Sullivan; and social media personality known for her food and beverage content, Emily Smith, aka @fleurdelicious.
For fans of Endymion, Felipe’s is hosting a special VIP watch party at their Mid-City location on North Carrollton, Sat. Feb. 10, noon to 8 p.m. Partygoers can enjoy a private viewing area, complimentary taco bar, drink tickets, private restroom access and more. Get your wristbands here.
Feeling hungry along the parade route? Bonafried Food Truck will be serving up their mega-delicious Mardi Gras chicken sandwich at the corner of St. Charles and Delachaise. You know you want some!
Craving crawfish? Bayou Beer Garden just started up weekend boils, Fridays at 3 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays at 1 p.m. (while supplies last, plus they also have shrimp). Dance on over and prepare to get deliciously messy.
Fuel up pre-parade at El Pavo Real for a breakfast burrito, chilaquiles, daily specials and more, or with their newest lagniappe item, the Café Helado Chilean-inspired iced coffee, perfect to kick off a long day along the route. Plus, there’s the always delightful and delicious margs to get you going.
