Chewbacchus Takes Off!
The Intergalactic Krewe of Chewbacchus hits the streets this Saturday at 7 p.m. with the theme “Let the Wookie Win!” The stellar mix of mini-krewes come together to celebrate all things nerdy and sci fi, and we love it. I always look forward to the krewes’ creativity, fun and cheeky spirit, and, of course, the handmade throws. If you haven’t seen the Leijorette’s 2023 theme yet, “Re-Sister,” check it out. It’s one of my favorites of all time.
Motoring Around Town
Also seen around town practicing and perfecting their hand made Carnival parade lounges, chaises and bathtubs(!): the Laissez Boys, Chaissez Ladies, Les Bonnes Vivantes – all giving new meaning to motorized vehicles. It’s an “only in New Orleans” moment when you see a decked-out recliner or bathtub hauling it down the neutral ground.
Glitter Buffet
Speaking of practice, the Krewe of Dolly (of which I am a member) had our parade and dance practice session recently (catch our moves in the Krewe of King Arthur and Bosom Buddies parades) and Elektra Cosmetics was on hand with their iconic Glitter Buffet of bolt balms, glitter make-up and more. There’s still time to get your glitter look together.
Eco-Friendly Mardi Gras
In addition to glitz and glitter glam, you can add NOLA Alchemy recycled glass Mardi Gras heart bead bracelets made by artist Andrew Barrows to your lewk. Each unique heart is made in partnership with Glass Half Full NOLA and is available at Plush Appeal/Mardi Gras Spot.
Finally, Grounds Krewe environmentally friendly throws catalog is here. Sustainable choices include Mardi Gras soap, bags of Cajun boil sunflower seeds and popping corn, native seed kits, recycled plastic cups and paper beads, and much more. They’re all fun, collectible and throws that you can feel good about giving away and receiving.
