One great thing about moving from the winter holidays right into Carnival is that most of us put off making New Year’s resolutions until Ash Wednesday. Which means, we can enjoy the start of Girl Scout Cookie Season fully! The 2024 Girl Scout Cookie season kicks off on January 19. Girl Scouts Louisiana East will be selling all the favorites like Thin Mints, Caramel Delights and Peanut Butter Sandwich cookies, plus some newer favorites. As advised by the scoutns, “If you know a registered Girl Scout, reach out to her to find out how she’s selling cookies. If you don’t know a Girl Scout, use the Girl Scout Cookie Finder to find a booth and purchase cookies beginning March 1. Girl Scout Cookie season in southeast Louisiana will run from Jan. 19 through March 24.” What’s your favorite cookie?
With Mardi Gras season soon to get ready to roll, it’s time to start thinking about costume and parade viewing outfits. More importantly, sometimes it’s not what you wear on the outside that counts as much as what you wear underneath. Undergoodies has you covered with their soft, comfy and colorful under-shorts (think bike shorts but sassy) to keep you cool and covered. Plus they have a ‘lil pocket for a lip balm, extra cash or glitter for touch ups.
Little Flea Market is back this Sunday, Jan. 21, with a Carnival Edition, noon to 5 p.m. at the Hotel Saint Vincent. Stock up on Mardi Gras accessories, costumes pieces, art and much more.
We are also loving the local artist Jane Wyeth’s fun and festive celebrations of life in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast. She recently shared her King Cake-Oplogy board (think Monopolyg with a NOLA twist) with King Cake Fe(a)stival goers. Check out her art here and look for her throughout Carnival.
Also, speaking of the King Cake Fe(a)stival, it’s a unique king cake slice market in town and a great chance for lovers of the Carnival cake to sample slices from a variety of bakeries across the area. Catch the feast this Thursday, Jan. 18 and Feb. 1, 5 to 9 p.m. at Bayou Wine and Beer Garden; and Thursday, Jan. 25, at Rabbit Hole.
