Fashion Forward
The New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA) debuted its latest epic exhibit last Friday, July 21, and it’s the perfect fit for New Orleans fashion-lovers, costume aficionados and design lovers of all ages. I was lucky to get a sneak peek of the exhibit titled “Fashioning America: Grit to Glamour,” and was wowed from the first montage featuring a stunning emerald green ensemble worn recently by Queen Diva herself, Big Freedia, this first of several nods to New Orleans. The collection featured works by historic designers as well as innovative, up and coming artists from across the fashion spectrum. The exhibit is on display now through November 26. We think we have our inspiration for our upcoming Carnival costume!
Poetry and Pie
Windowsill Pies will hold its next “Poetry and Pie” night this Thursday, July 27, 6 to 7:30 p.m. featuring readings by writers Allison Campbell and Dylan Evers. Plus plenty of pie (check out their key lime or peanut butter pretzel icebox pies, if available) and refreshments to purchase.
Sci-Fi Summer Reading
Summer reading is not just for kids and students. The Jefferson Parish Library’s “Any Book Club” will celebrate sci-fi on Wednesday, August 9, 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the West Bank Regional Library branch. Choose any science fiction, fantasy or out of this world title to read. Refreshments will be available for attendees.

And speaking of iconic local brands, Community Coffee has this delish hack for your next DIY iced coffee treat. Vanilla waffle cone iced coffee cubes? Yes, please!
World Cup Action
TV and movie writers and actors may be on strike, so take advantage of the down time to support the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team, which is currently competing in the FIFA Women’s World Cup. Catch the games at your favorite neighborhood watering hole. Bayou Beer Garden and Courtyard Brewery, just to name two, have announced plans to have watch parties, with many more sports bars around the city joining in as well. Cheer on our women, stay cool in the a/c and enjoy a pint or two. It’s a win-win-win! Where will you watch?
