Jane Austen Mystery
Book lovers, mystery lovers, Jane Austen-lovers will want to check out the upcoming “2 Jane 2 Austen” mystery experience at Blue Cypress Books this Tuesday, June 6, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The event will feature Claudia Gray, author of “The Late Mrs. Willoughby,” a “suspenseful sequel to The Murder of Mr. Wickham, which sees Jonathan Darcy and Juliet Tilney reunited, and with another mystery to solve: the dreadful poisoning of the scoundrel Willoughby’s new wife.” Tickets for the event include a signed copy of the book, refreshments and a unique murder mystery experience. Costumes encouraged, so break out your fancy linen and gloves! And if you miss this week’s experience, there will be an “encore” presentation on Monday, July 3.
Book Fair
Tuesday also marks the first “Boozy Book Fair” with Tubby & Coos at Second Line Brewing, 5 to 8 p.m. This month’s theme is “Pride” so there will be plenty of LGBTQ books, games, stickers, and, of course, brews.
Pride Month
Speaking of Pride, June is Pride month, and there are a whole slate of activities and events, from live performances, Habitat for Humanity volunteer build opportunities, brunches and drag shows, picnics and much more. Check the official website for a list and calendar, including the annual Pride Parade this Saturday, June 10, 6 to 10 p.m., winding through French Quarter. The parade will kick off with PrideFest in the Marigny. The parade will feature fan favorite walking krewes (like the Krewe of Dolly, of which I am a proud member), floats and plenty of chances to dance, cheer and serenade in celebration.
Glitter Glam
Glitter Box NOLA is offering patrons the chance to get glammed up with free glitter adornment during PrideFest before the Pride Parade rolls. Stop by between 1 and 4 p.m. for sparkles, refreshments and shopping.
Cheers!
Congratulations and cheers are in order for Anna’s in the Marigny, the Chandelier Bar at the Four Seasons Hotel New Orleans, and the chic Tell Me Bar. All were named as Esquire Magazine’s Best Bars in America 2023. Check them out and raise a glass!
Museum Worthy
The New Orleans Museum of Art recently announced extended hours for Louisiana residents on Wednesdays. Admission is free through The Helis Foundation (with proof of residency) with the museum open noon to 7 p.m. just in time for summer. It’s the perfect fit for long, hot days. Cool off and soak up some culture and a/c.
