Week of March 18: Brunch, Oysters and Crafts

Do you like brunch? Do you like to look fabulous? Wakin’ Bakin’s French Quarter location has you covered this Saturday, March 23. The breakfast and brunch spot is teaming up with Pixie Dust, which will be on hand with their biodegradable “Sunday Brunch Glitter Blend” celebrating with free samples, a glitter application bar, bubbles and photo ops to round out your brunch experience.

Enjoy some excellent local oysters and help raise funds and awareness of efforts to restore Louisiana’s coastland with the Shell-a-Bration event this Friday, March 22, 7 p.m. at the Cajun Ballroom in Louisiana Swamp Exhibit at the Audubon Zoo. The event highlights the work by the Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana, which collects shells from New Orleans restaurants to build oyster reefs and shoreline habitat in coastal Louisiana. In addition to plenty for oyster lovers to enjoy, there will also be live music, a silent auction, prizes and more. Get your tickets here.

Craft lovers will want to check our local C’Mere Nola’s new “Tiny Food” workshops. Artist Remy Diamond will teach classes on sculpting miniature clay foods (think pizza and plates of nachos!) which can be made into one-of-a-kind magnets, earrings, necklaces or bracelets. Classes are designed to accommodate groups of 8 to 10, so gather your besties and get crafting!

We are obsessed with this new veggie Banh Mi-inspired sandwich at Leo’s Bread, loaded with fresh pickles, carrots, cukes, jalapenos and topped with chili mayo and avocado on semolina ciabatta. Perfect for a spring picnic or weekend brunch treat.
