Week of May 13: Speed Dating, Cooking Classes and Bayou Boogaloo

If you’re looking to make some new gal pals, NOLA Speed Dating is hosting a pop-up night this Thursday, May 16, 6 to 9 p.m. at Picnic Provisions & Whiskey. It’s a fun way to make some new connections, enjoy a night out and meet some great local women. Be sure to register in advance.

Porgy’s Seafood Market just announced a new series of culinary skills classes, perfect for beginner chefs or those looking to bone-up on their know-how. Courses include lessons on shucking and grilling oysters, cooking a whole fish, cleaning and cooking blue crab and more. Beer, wine and tasting samples are included with the price of the class.

One of my goals for 2024 was to not buy any new clothing or accessories, and to invest in well-made thrifted pieces instead. Now that has gotten a little easier with the collab between Dime Store Cowgirl and Mary’s Rack on Oak Street. Secondhand clothing with style, local crafts and accessories and more, meet up for a one-stop shop.

Fringe + Co. is celebrating their anniversary with all of the sparkle and style you’d expect. This Friday, May 17, the glam studio will be open from 3 to 8 p.m. for a special celebration sale with bubbles and glitz and more. Mark your calendars for glittery good time.

Bayou Boogaloo hits Bayou St. John this Friday, Saturday and Sunday. There will be arts and crafts for kids, a crawfish eating championship contest, Dohm Collective interactive art experience, a comedy roast, food vendors and live music, of course. Be sure to get your tickets or water passes in advance for the best deal.
