Son of a Saint and Dat Dog are teaming up once again for their annual hot dog recipe contest. This year for the 10th anniversary of the contest, competitors can submit their idea for the most unique and delicious ‘dog. Three finalists will be selected on Monday, June 3, so be sure to get your hot dog recipes submitted now. All three finalists will appear on Dag Dog menus for the month of June, with a special celebration at the 4th of July Fest. Zony Mash and the Krewe of Mid-City Mutt Mamas are hosting a special art market and adoption event this Saturday, May 25, noon to 4 p.m. There will be plenty of local artists and makers, food and Zony Mash beer for purchase, and plenty of pups to meet (and adopt).
Mark your calendars for two events at Urban South that will get Pride month kicked off fabulously. The “Loud and Proud” drag brunch on Saturday, June 1, 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., will feature bottomless beverages, all-you-can-eat brunch, amazing drag performances, plus a glitter and glam market with items from Fringe + Co, Krewe Eyewear, Elektra Cosmetics and more. Bywater Brew Pub has lots going on this month including karaoke night on Wednesday, May 29, 6 to 10 p.m., plenty of craft beers (brewed on site), wine and cocktails, “brew pub grub” and special pop-ups from Chance in Hell Snoballs featuring their unique, hand-crafted flavors.
Finally, dog lovers from across the city have been on the lookout for Scrim, an escaped foster dog who may be on the loose in Mid-City. Spearheaded by efforts from Zeus’ Rescues and lots of local helpers, Scrim has a tracking map with several sightings in the area. If you see this lost pup, call the number in this post, but don’t approach, as he will run away. Let’s see if we can scoop up this pooch and bring him to safety (and hopefully by the time this post comes out, he will be home).
