Week of Nov. 11: Beignet Fest, Book Sales and LUNA Fete

Beignet Fest fans celebrate this weekend! This Saturday, Nov. 16, the wildly popular festival returns to the New Orleans City Park Festival Grounds. Food vendors will feature an array of sweet and savory beignets, frozen treats, fried chicken, gumbo and much more. Plus, all proceeds benefit the Beignet Fest Foundation, whose mission is to celebrate, embrace and empower the lives of children with autism and their families. Win-win-win! For a truly dazzling experience, head to Lafayette Square for this year’s LUNA Fete celebration, Nov. 14 through 17, 6 to 10 p.m. nightly. The light and sound experience features cutting edge digital design and art will transform Gallier Hall (and beyond) with dazzling images.   

New Orleans-based artist Emma Fick presents “From Within: A Contemporary Vision of Stained Glass” this Thursday, Nov. 14, 4 to 5:30 p.m. at Tulane University’s Howard-Tilton Library. At this event, “Emma will discuss her innovative process of using plastic and LED lights in place of glass and sunlight, reimagining this medium traditionally reserved for religious spaces into a modern and secular context.” RSVP to this special event here, and check out Fick’s website for more events, her current collection, classes for kids and adults and more. 

Book lovers, heads up! The Friends of the New Orleans Public Library “Really Big Book Sale” at the Carriage House by the Latter Library, is this Saturday, Nov. 16, starting at 10 a.m. for members and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for everyone. From sci-fi and fantasy to romance, history, mystery, YA, kids’ books and more, there are books for all ages, reading levels and preferences. 

RuPaul’s Drag Race fan favorites Jinx Monsoon and Ben De La Crème will perform their popular “Jinx and DeLa Holiday Show”  this Sunday, Nov. 17, at the Orpheum Theater with plenty of sugar and spice and everything nice. Just the thing to get in the holiday spirit.
