Sandwiches, giant sandwiches, leftovers sandwiches, pies, “peas”…and much more!

Po-boy lovers, get ready for a carb-filled, multi-napkin, jam-packed sandwich celebration this weekend. The annual Oak Street Po-Boy Fest returns this Sunday, Nov. 19, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. with every kind of po-boy creation possible. Food vendors include 14 Parishes, Boucherie, Mister Mao, Ms. Linda the Yakamein Lady, Parkway Bakery and Tavern, Southerns and many, many more. The festival is free, although wristbands are needed to purchase po-boys and are available for purchase are several locations along Oak Street.

Kick off the weekend with a po-boy block party Friday, Nov. 17, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. outside the Maple Leaf. Po-boy pros will be on hand to build a 300-foot long po-boy, so be sure to get your spot to have a sample.

If you are more of a DIY person, check out Joy the Baker’s new sandwich series. This “Sandwich of the Year” aka “The Thanksgiving Leftover Sandwich” is seriously inspiring with a twist on a holiday favorite – gravy mayo. Check it out, bookmark it and dazzle your family when you whip this up on Black Friday.

It’s pie season, y’all. Let the pros do the work. Ayu Bakehouse has three Thanksgiving pies available for pre-order – pumpkin, apple crumble and bourbon pecan pie – plus plenty of more holiday baked treats coming up throughout the holidays.  Windowsill Pies is featuring a gingered pumpkin tart with candied pepitas, a vanilla bean bourbon pecan pie and more, so be sure to check out their menu in advance so you don’t miss anything. La Boulangerie’s menu includes classic pumpkin and pecan, plus key lime, lemon meringue, chocolate ganache and a strawberry tart (as well as rolls, biscuits, apps, snacks and more). All November long, the MiNO (Made in New Orleans) Foundation celebrates “Pass the Peas” with a culinary fundraiser for a great cause. Proceeds from special menu items at participating restaurants across the city will do toward supporting programming, resources and advocacy for BIPOC hospitality talent in New Orleans. Participating restaurants include Cane and Table, Gracious Bakery, Cochon, Vals, Turkey and the Wolf, Pizza Delicious and Sylvain just to name a few. RicRack NOLA is sponsored a textile recycling day this Sunday, Nov. 19, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Bring old clothing, fabric or craft scraps for recycling into stuffing. You’ll get $2 per pound of fabric, plus peace of mind knowing your items won’t be going into a landfill. The group will also be accepting gently used bedding, sheets and towels for local animal shelters and rescues.
