Week of November 6: Thanksgiving Specials, Boozy Book Fair and Mister Mao

Holidays

The holiday party season is nearing, and Chef Alon Shaya has tips on creating the ultimate hummus display as an alternative to an appetizer buffet. Add this to your festive party planning list.

Parkway Poboys annual Thanksgiving-inspired Wednesday special is back after a few years off! Packed with turkey, dressing, stuffing, cranberry sauce and gravy, it’s the best way to get your holiday meal fix, and for a good cause. Skip the line for a sandwich package that includes the special plus several goodies with tickets benefiting the Al Copeland Foundation.

Books

For book worms, mid-mod fans and cocktail aficionados, Blue Cypress Books is teaming up with Broad Street Cider for a Boozy Book Fair this Saturday, Nov. 11, 6 to 8 p.m. Inspired by “Mad Men,” glam costumes are encouraged. The event is free, but space is limited, so grab tickets in advance.

November is National Novel Writing Month! Each November, aspiring novelists make a commitment to write a little each day of the month, culminating with a finished piece by November 30. For those that are putting pen to paper, the New Orleans Public Library has your back with workshops, meet ups with fellow writers, tips and much more.
