Week of Oct. 7: Pop-Ups, NOLA Nite Market and Halloween Costumes

The generous culinary community (and beyond!) is at it again, raising funds to help Turning Tables Executive Director Touré Folkes who lost his home to a tragic fire on Oct. 2. According to the foundation, “His mission with Turning Tables  — to create career pathways for Black and Brown hospitality professionals in New Orleans — has been a beacon of hope and opportunity for so many of us. Through his dedication and vision, Touré has provided not only careers but also a sense of belonging, community, and purpose in an industry where many have been overlooked. Now, we have the chance to give back.” Donations to help with the rebuild can be made through a link on Turning Tables’s Instagram here.

Inspired to create the ghoulish costume of your…nightmares? RicRack NOLA will help you construct your own custom hood for that spooky cloak, this Wednesday, Oct. 9, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Minimal sewing skills necessary and all materials needed are included in the class fee. Sign up and get spooky!

The NOLA Nite Market returns this Friday, Oct. 11 (5 to 10 p.m.), Sat., Oct. 12 (noon to 9 p.m.), and Sunday, Oct. 13 (11 a.m. to 7 p.m.), at the Westwego Farmer’s Market. This year’s market will be packed with sweet and savory food options from favorites like The Nori Guys, Get Your Mom & Dim Sum, NOLA Noods, Oppa Korean Fried Chicken, Lufu NOLA and many, many more, along with local craft booths and live entertainment. Proceeds from the event will go towards local organizations Asian Pacific American Society and VACLA (Vietnamese-American Community in Louisiana).

We are excited to see the debut of Semita Mamita Latin American pastry pop-up hosted by Ayu Bakehouse each Friday and Saturday, 4:30 to 7 p.m., through Nov. 2. Recent menu items include sweet concha stuffed with apple and cream cheese, chicken boudin empanada and pumpkin spice horchata (plus more!). And while you’re there check out Ayu Bakehouse’s Tasting Boxes. Each is packed with goodies to ship to friends and family across the U.S. (Psst, the holidays are coming!)
