Week of October 9: Vampires, Pumpkins and Haunted Houses

Haunted Houses

Two of the city’s favorite “haunts” are ready for the Halloween season.

Uptown, at 6000 St. Charles Avenue, the “Skeleton House” is decked out with plenty of puns think and topical jokes. It’s the perfect pit-stop for photo ops and silly scares, day or night, for the whole family. Also, be sure to take a look back at our Persona profile of the brains behind the skeletons, Louellen Berger, and learn what it takes to put it all together each October.

In the Garden District, fans will want to catch up once again with “Ghost Manor,” located at 2502 Magazine St. After some major hurdles and trials, the dazzling light and sound show will go on this weekend, Oc. 12 -15, from sunset to 10 p.m. Additional shows are still TBD, but the manor’s masters have started a GoFundMe to keep the experience going despite all. Catch up on showtimes and information, plus how to donate at their Instagram or website.

Pumpkin Patch…and more

This year’s most glamorous pumpkin patch once again is at NOLA Craft Culture in MidCity. This year’s sparkling theme is “The Rocky Horror Glitter Pumpkin Patch,” open this weekend (Oct. 14-15) and next weekend (Oct. 21-22) from noon to 6 p.m. There will be art vendors, jewelry, snacks, face painting, tarot reading and, of course, plenty of glittering pumpkins for kids and adults alike. Those looking for something more grown-up will want to attend the new “Ghouls Night Out” event on Oct. 14, 6 to 8 p.m., with a performance by the local Rocky Horror “shadow cast,” exclusive tarot readings by Laveau Contraire, raffles, drinks and more.

Vampires and Frights

There’s still time to catch the comedic horror play “Dracula” presented by The NOLA Project at the Lafitte Greenway Station (436 N. Norman C. Francis Pkwy). This one-of-a-kind outdoor (bring your best lawn or festival chairs) presentation runs through Oct. 15. Southerns Food truck will provide snacks for sale, and an on-site bar will be available for beverages. Purchase tickets and get information here.

Perfect Potion

The cocktail masterminds behind El Guapo Bitters have put together a concoction perfect for the season with this tasty “Witches’ Potion.” Mix up a batch and enjoy responsibly while trick or treating or taking in some spooky sights.
