Wet Noses, Warm Hearts

Two legs were good, but four legs were even better at the LA/SPCA “Dog Day Afternoon” on March 25. This year’s theme was “Pawsitively New Orleans: Gotta dig it!” The event, which helped to raise money for the LA/SPCA to help homeless and abused animals, was held at Audubon Park with plenty of furry fun in the sun.

Honorable Chairdog BonBon Raynor, a black Lab mix, presided over the day with her fellow officials: first Deputy Chairdog Felipe Crenshaw, a loving Chihuahua, and Rescue Chairdog Deja Cozzi, a Boxer that survived a life of abuse and neglect, miraculously nursed to health by the Louisiana Boxer Rescue.

The event ensured that canines were the guests of honor. Dogs—with their owners—were welcome to play in the grass, make new friends and participate in the Dog Jog/Walk-A-Thon. In 2006, BonBon was the Dog Walk winner, while Felipe’s little legs led him to second place.

Along with the Dog Walk, participants enjoyed live music by Weathered, pet contests, pet-centric vendors and delicious food. The mild, sunny day also provided much to bark about.
