What To Do This Weekend in New Orleans

Staying on top of various events in New Orleans each weekend isn’t always easy. So we’ve provided a few of our picks to help you navigate the most exciting events in the city, and even a list of brunch, lunch and dinner spots to check out.

Friday, May 15

“The Book of Mormon”
While this is technically happening all weekend, there are many events going on throughout the city, so why not spend your Friday at the theater? Winner of 9 Tony Awards, this Best Musical is dropping into The Saenger Theatre. It is important to note that this musical was written by the creators of “South Park” and includes explicit language. Available tickets can be found here.

Saturday, May 16

Keith Lee’s FamiLEE Day
Social media influencer Keith Lee will host the first Familee Day at the UNO Lakefront Festival Grounds this Saturday. The day is inspired by Lee’s food content and will host a hand-picked food village, Familee Day obstacle course and a wide variety of New Orleans talent like Kirk Franklin, Mannie Fresh, Big Freedia and so many more. Tickets available here.

Tchoup Hop Gala
This Saturday, the Preservation Resource Center of New Orleans is hosting their reimagined annual gala at their Tchoupitoulas Street headquarters. Previously referred to as the Julia Jump, the PRC ensures the mission of the event is the same: celebrating their work and the people that help make preservation possible. ART&SOUL Gala
NOCCA Foundation’s annual ART&SOUL Gala is this weekend. The foundation invests in the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts and its students through programming they say encourage educational excellence and artistic innovation. For more information on the gala and to purchase tickets, click here.

Sunday, May 17

Dining By Design
This popular event returns to the Historic BK House & Gardens. Experience what organizers call an elegant evening of creative tablescapes, exceptional cuisine, libations, music and delightful conversation. Proceeds from the event help support the preservation of the historic home. More information and tickets can be found here.

All Weekend

Mid-City Bayou Boogaloo
Organizers for the annual Mid-City Bayou Boogaloo are changing things up to celebrate the 20th year of the festival. The anniversary edition runs May 15–17 with a special two-venue format in partnership with the Historic Pitot House and The Broadside. Schedule, tickets and more information can be found here.

PRIMARY TRUST by Eboni Booth
Crescent City Stage introduces the regional premiere of this Pulitzer Prize-winning play at the Contemporary Arts Center Black Box Theatre. The team says the play asks what it really means to be lonely in a world where we’re more connected than ever — and what it takes to finally let the world in. At a time when so many of us are craving real connection, Primary Trust is the kind of story that reminds you why we go to the theater. For more information and tickets, click here.

Where To Eat This Weekend

In a city known for its delicious restaurants, sometimes it’s hard to pick just one. That’s why we’re giving you our suggestions for the weekend. Here’s a dinner, lunch and brunch recommendation to fill your weekend hunger.

Palm&Pine

BRUNCH. Palm&Pine is always a crowd-pleaser. For brunch, I’m ordering the Cajun fried chicken biscuit, the dulce de loquat cinnamon roll and ceviche tostaditas.

Chada

LUNCH. This is a new favorite of mine! The stuffed chicken wings, shrimp and pork dumplings and Tofu Makam were all fantastic.

La Petite Grocery

DINNER. Let’s head to Magazine Street for dinner. La Petite Grocery is a staple on the historic street. Blue crab beignets, ricotta dumplings and a pan roasted redfish are what we’re ordering.
