What To Eat, See and Do Father’s Day Weekend In Acadiana

As an only child, I’m particularly close with my father. Close enough to know he does not need another tie or expensive cufflinks this Father’s Day, but probably just some quality time. What better way to spend time with dad than with a low-key acoustic set? If that’s not his jam, there is new artwork to view and discuss. If that doesn’t paint a picture of how you want your weekend to go, there is a yoga class that ends with donuts. Because if there’s anything my dad has taught me, it’s that life is about balance.

And you don’t say no to donuts.

6/14: Summer Exhibition Opening Reception: The Paul and Lulu Hilliard Art Museum will host an opening reception for its new season of exhibitions this Friday. The recently revamped Blue Dog Café’ will provide hors d’oeuvres and cocktails to sample while exploring the galleries. Beers from Urban South Brewery will be on tap, and attendees will leave with a surprise treat to be used at Blue Dog! Members can peruse the gallery starting at 4 p.m., and the general public is welcome at 6 p.m.

6/14: Will Payne Harrison with Ever More Nest: This Friday, NUNU Arts and Culture Collective in Arnaudville will host two touring musicians who are Louisiana natives. Lafayette’s Will Payne Harrison returns with New Orleans act Ever More Nest, solo artist Kelcy Mae. Harrison has toured with The Avett Brothers and The Rayo Brothers, and Ever More Nest is an Americana outfit that is also based in Tennessee. The two have melded their cross-country influences, and it certainly shows. The show starts at 6 p.m. and ends at 9 p.m. Tickets are available via Eventbrite for $20.

6/15: Dad’s and Donuts, a Father’s Day Flow: New yoga studio, GoodWolfe Power Yoga, will celebrate Father’s Day in a (semi) healthy way! No experience is needed for this hot yoga flow, and all dads flow for free! Those who are “like a dad” to someone count, too, and non-dads are welcome as well. Members get in free, but the class is $20 for drop-ins. Plus, donuts. Class starts at 9 a.m.

6/15: Esther Rose at Tante Marie’s: Country/folk New Orleans artist Esther Rose will bring her handcrafted songs to Tante Marie’s in Breaux Bridge this Saturday evening. Since releasing her debut album ‘This Time Last Night’ in 2017, Rose has toured with The Punch Brothers and Les Deslondes. Fans of Joni Mitchell and Hank Williams won’t want to miss out! Her set starts at 6:30 p.m.

6/16: The Has Beans: I cannot think of anything more dad-tastic than a band that is a dad joke. The Cajun, Zydeco, Blues and Americana outfit will perform songs from The Red Beans and Rice Review and some originals, too. And it’s an early show, starting at 7 p.m.. Peak dad.
