Now that we’re mostly recovered from Carnival and heading into the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations there are a lot of great options all week. Tonight indie folk and Americana troubadours The Avett Brothers stop into the Fillmore while house producer ZHU plays the Joy. ZHU released an excellent new record – Ringos Desert – late last year this will be a great chance to catch some of the these tracks live. Saturday legendary British alt rockers Swervedriver will be at Republic while the Avett Brothers come back to the Fillmore for another night. If you’re looking for something a bit more intimate, Vega is at Gasa Gasa with My Heart Might Explode. On Sunday Pink brings her Beautiful Trauma World Tour to the Smoothie King Arena. This performance has been receiving fantastic reviews for the performances as well as the spectacle. If you’re not into the arena shows, Eric Gales aka Raw Dawg brings his blues-rock style to the Ace Hotel. Personally I’m excited about dream pop duo French for Rabbits who are headed to Gasa Gasa that night. Check out their video fro “It will be Okay” below.
Heading into the week you should definitely check out Mountain Man at Preservation Hall on Monday for the late show (their Tiny Desk Concert is below). This is the vocal trio of Ameila Meath (of Sylvan Esso fame), Molly Erin Sarle and Alexandra Sauser-Monnig (they are also playing at Prez Hall the 17th as well). Tuesday, Welsh multi-instrumentalist Novo Amor will be at One Eyed Jacks while Amos Lee takes the stage at the Orpheum and folk singer Tyler Ramsey heads over to Gasa Gasa. Also on Tuesday local producer AF THE NAYSAYER will be hosting a release party for his new EP-Parts: Act 1-down at the Ace Hotel.
On Wednesday the Tin Men are always a good bet down at d.b.a. While Thursday sees the country music duo Brothers Osborne stopping by the Fillmore and John Scott at Gasa Gasa. You can also catch the outstanding Brass Band Circus of the Dirty Bourbon River Show at Tipitina’s that night. If you haven’t seen this amazing spectacle it is well worth your time. Check out their video for “Wolfman” below.
