It is one of our favorite times of the year when we all have fun feeling the festival spirit. If you are taking part in one of the various outdoor activities, we applaud you. Not only does New Orleans come alive right about now, but people from around the globe are visiting. So, after you fest your heart out, we have a few great happy hours for you to try.
Johnny Sanchez (930 Poydras St.) This downtown eatery has happy hour Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Not only are you able to get $2 tacos, but also a selections of cocktails are half priced. That includes the Johnny Sanchez margarita, draft and bottle beers and wines by the glass. This is a fantastic stop if you are downtown and looking for a fun space with energetic bartenders who are sure to keep your taste buds happy.
Desi Vega’s (628 St Charles Ave.) Inside the Lafayette Hotel, Desi Vega’s is a great place for happy hour deals. Happy hour here is Tuesday through Friday form 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. You can get Grey Goose & Crown Royal for $5, well drinks and import/specialty beer will cost you $4 and select wines are $6 and domestic beer is $3. You really can’t go wrong with a stop here, especially if you hit it on a Wednesday during the Wednesday at the Square concert series; which features great music, people and people watching.
Whiskey & Sticks (2513 Bayou Road) On the most historic street in the city, sits a quaint place that features a bar and lounge and great outdoor patio. Owned by former WDSU news anchor and radio personality Ken Jones, Whiskey & Sticks’ features rare whiskeys, a wide selection of reasonably priced bottles, excellent premium liquor selections, and they offer the smoothest cigars on Esplanade Ridge. Here you can enjoy drinks, small bites and a casual ambiance that will surely suck you in. The good news is, it’s on the way to the Fair Grounds and ideal if you are headed to – or leaving – Jazz Fest. With the fun times rolling, it’s a great festival stop for locals and out-of-town visitors.
