Where To Eat Before Heading to The Saenger

Broadway in New Orleans just released the schedule for the 2023-2024 season at The Saenger Theatre, and “Tina” the musical about Tina Turner is set to hit the stage next week. With that in mind, we thought this week the editor’s would pick their favorite pre-show eateries – all stars in their own right – to hit before they head to the theater.

Domenica

“Domenica at the Roosevelt Hotel is a great spot for a light meal and a glass of wine before a show. Plus they have a great happy hour if you go a bit early.”

-Ashley McLellan

Effervescence

“I absolutely love Effervescence. The theater, for me, is a time to dress up and have a fun night out. Effervescence, with the delicious food and endless flights of bubbles, gives my fancy night out the little boost it needs.”

-Kelly Massicot
Digital Media Editor

Felipe's Mexican Taqueria - French Quarter

“For me, Felipe’s. Gotta fuel up and you can walk there after you eat!”

-Drew Hawkins
Editor, Custom Publishing

Katie's Restaurant and Bar

“If there’s time, we pop into Katie’s (who has an awesome Cuban sandwich) and then hop on the streetcar to the Saenger. No paying for parking!”

-Kim Singletary
Editor, Biz New Orleans

MaMou

“The French brasserie MaMou is a bit this side of fancy, but for a night at the theater elegance is in order. Get the salmon mi-cuit.”

-Melanie Warner Spencer
Editor, New Orleans Homes/New Orleans Bride

Palm&Pine

“Very charming and delicious and a great way to load up before heading over for a show.”

-Andy Myer
Editor, St. Charles Avenue

“Before Saenger – we usually go to Singha Thai Cafe on Gravier for delicious and affordable before downtown events in general.”
