What to do this weekend? There is The Game, of course. That is a given, but what else is there? There are quite a few happenings and gatherings this weekend that range from reverent​ to jubilant, and sometimes, both at once.
1/19: Blow-out Book Sale, Paul and Lulu Hilliard Art Museum: In need of a gift for yourself or someone else? This Saturday at the Hilliard, select books will be 50 percent off ticket price. Books include children’s educational books, art history books, pop-ups and more. Members an add their discount in addition to marked down prices. The museum will be open from 10 a.m.- 5 p.m.
1/19-1/21: Martin Luther King, Jr., Day celebrations, various: Lafayette Consolidated Government hosts a series of events this weekend honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., including Sunday’s holiday parade at 3 p.m. The parade will begin at the MLK Center, located at 309 Cora St., and will make its way down MLK Memorial Parkway (Willow Street) to conclude at the Clifton Chenier Center/Church of Philadelphia. Other events include LCG’s musical extravaganza on Saturday at 1 p.m., as well as medical screenings, voter registration, and exhibits.
1/20: The Boutique Bridal Show, Le Pavillion: This Sunday from 1-4 p.m., future brides and wedding vendors will convene for the Boutique Bridal Show, which evokes the style of haute couture bridal shows from the 1940s and 1950s. Models will strut through the crowds at eye-level so each bride can see an intimate perspective of each gown. Local wedding photographer Catherine Guidry will have a Q&A with the audience. 1/20: Saints vs. Rams, Jefferson St. Pub: Need a place to watch the game? Doors open at noon for the last game before the Super Bowl! This event will feature the Soul Express Brass Band at halftime and after the game as well as drink specials. The game begins at 2 p.m., and the after party ends at 9 p.m.
1/20: Delectable Dialects II, Indulge: After-hours poetry event Delectable Dialects makes its return to Indulge this Sunday. After the coffee and dessert shop shutters its doors to the general public at 7 p.m., local poets, musicians, and visual artists’ work will be joined with three dessert pairings from Pastry Chef Tuesday Guidry. Each pairing will, in its own way, highlight two flights of Indulge’s new wine collection. Featured makers include Jams Blanchard, Casey Granger and Jacob Wilson.
