This year’s Whitney Zoo-To-Do gala truly made a splash. The May 7 event featured a sponsor and patron party at the Jerome S. Glazer Audubon Tea Room and Garden at 7:30 p.m., and the main event on the grounds of Audubon Zoo at 8:30, all to benefit Audubon’s Cool Zoo Splash Park. The new attraction will feature water fountains, a giant alligator slide and other splash-worthy activities. Louis Colmenares decorated the pool area with his usual panache.
The black-tie or white linen suit event, chaired by Mrs. Bruce R. Hoefer Jr., also featured a silent auction, specialty cocktails, cuisine from 72 local restaurants and 51 cocktail bars and a special raffle of a luxurious 2010 Lexus Hybrid HS 250. Guests danced the night away to Sister Sledge of “We Are Family” fame, as well as Louisiana Spice,
the Storyville Stompers, The Gumbo Trio and Tony Green and Gypsy Jazz.
The week before the main event, Humana presented a special Zoo-To-Do for Kids gala, featuring a red carpet fashion show, arcade games, animals, face painting, magicians, jugglers, clowns and much more. Mrs. John J. Carpenter chaired the family-friendly event held at the Audubon Zoo.
