Wining for a Cause

More than 700 attendants gathered to raise a little over $1.8 million for the Emeril Lagasse Foundation at the 7th Annual Carnivale du Vin Gala and Wine auction. The gala took place at the La Nouvelle Ballroom in the New Orleans Convention Center on Saturday, November 12. Many noteworthy organizations, including the New Orleans Convention Center, American Airlines, and Republic National Distributing Co., helped to sponsor the event.

The gala kicked off with the Bacchus reception and silent auction, which featured items such as signed Roman Harper and Darren Sharper Saints jerseys and a dinner for four at the James Beard House. Guests then enjoyed a “Krewe du Vin Dinner” with an extensive menu created by remarkable chefs Mario Batali, Michael Chiarello, Mark Ladner, Dean Fearing and Jacque Torres. Each menu item was carefully paired with a featured wine. There was also a live auction and music provided by Glenn Frey of The Eagles and his band.

Since its inception, Carnivale du Vin has raised over $14 million for the Emeril Lagasse Foundation.

The Emeril Lagasse Foundation was created in 2002 when Emeril Lagasse realized he wanted to give back to underprivileged children and non-profit organizations in the cities were his restaurants were located. In New Orleans, the Emeril Lagasse Foundation has provided culinary education at St. Michael’s Special School, partnered with Second Harvest Food Bank to provide summer meals for underprivileged students, and, in 2011, dedicated the Emeril Lagasse Foundation Culinary Arts Studio at the New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts.
