Laurie Leiva

President - Ursuline Academy

As Laurie Leiva leads Ursuline Academy toward its 300th anniversary in 2027, she is helping guide one of the most historic educational institutions in the country into its next chapter.

Founded in 1727, Ursuline Academy is the oldest continually operating Catholic school and the oldest Catholic girls’ school in the nation. For nearly three centuries, the school has educated generations of women who have shaped New Orleans and beyond through leadership, service, and faith; a milestone that, for Leiva, is as meaningful as it is inspiring.

“What makes Ursuline so special is not simply our history, but the fact that our mission remains just as relevant today,” Leiva said.

Under Leiva’s leadership, Ursuline continues to balance tradition with innovation while preparing students to lead with confidence and compassion. Leiva believes the all-girls environment encourages young women to find their voices and recognize their potential early on.

“We want students to leave here with confidence in themselves, a strong sense of purpose, and a commitment to making a positive impact in their communities,” Leiva said.

As the school approaches its tricentennial celebration, Leiva is dedicated to maintaining Ursuline’s mission, which remains centered on educating women to lead lives of integrity, faith, and service.
