As a fourth-generation New Orleanian and young musician, Dr. Vyoone Segue Lewis fostered a discipline for learning and empathy, a foundation that helped her not only find her voice but trust it. Always drawn to the sciences, Dr. Lewis earned a PhD in Medical Genetics and, from her successes there, established herself as a leader in the field.
Beyond her scientific accomplishments, Dr. Lewis honors a legacy built by her mother as she transitions from STEM to hospitality, refocusing her passion on restoring a historic New Orleans building and transforming it into Vyoone’s Restaurant. Vyoone’s is a community-born space that honors her mother’s legacy, celebrating culinary traditions! As a Black woman and sole owner, Dr. Lewis knows the power of entrepreneurship, of a place to call her own, and is eager to use her platform as a leaping-off point for the next generation of leaders.
With a career that has been recognized by New Orleans CityBusiness, where she was named to the Power 25: Tourism and Hospitality, and was also honored as an “In the Lead” Best Minority-Owned Business honoree, Dr. Lewis’ influence is felt throughout the city in ways as enriching as they are delicious.
