The Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation held its 17th annual “Save Our Lake & Coast” on November 7 at the Pontchartrain Yacht Club in Mandeville. With music by Overboard and a silent auction, the party, themed “Let’s Make Waves” was filled with nautically dressed guests who bid on items in a silent auction, sipped cocktails and snacked on food from a variety of local restaurants. In addition to the many food and beverage donors, the media sponsor was NorthshoreLinks.com; while other prime sponsors included AT&T, Penny and Al Baumer, Beam Global Wine & Spirits, the Pontchartrain Yacht Club and State Investors Bank, among dozens of others.
The event raised much-needed funds for the organization’s efforts. The foundation has been improving the water quality in the area; it has also constructed nine artificial reefs in the lake that are improving habitat and recreational fishing.
Among some other projects are the efforts to rebuild the New Canal Lighthouse for use as a museum and education Center, and numerous others that benefit and protect our “natural habitat.”
