NEW ORLEANS (press release) – On Wednesday, Oct. 28, the Youth Empowerment Project (YEP) will host its first Halloween “Treats and Beats” celebration for youth and families in the Central City neighborhood. YEP is hosting the event in partnership with the 6th District of the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD).
The event will take place at YEP’s Youth Center at 1529 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd and feature family – friendly games, activities, and food, including mask and cookie decorating, a ring toss, dizzy basketball, and a snowball stand. Social distancing will be practiced, masks will be required of all participants, and temperatures will be taken at the entrance. Most activities will take place outside and are weather dependent.
WHAT: Treats and Beats Celebration
WHEN: Wednesday, Oct. 28 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

WHY: Underserved youth and their families will participate in games, activities, and enjoy snacks at YEP’s Treats and Beats Halloween celebration. Officers from the 6th District will help YEP staff run the activity stations and will give out candy to spread good cheer amongst the community. Participants will be treated to the musical talent of the YEP Drumline.
“This is such a challenging time and we felt like young people and families needed an opportunity to get out, socialize safely, and enjoy some holiday spirit this year,” said Melissa Sawyer, YEP’s Co -Founder and CEO. “Treats and Beats is for our young people and the community. It’s also a way to celebrate the generosity of YEP’s donors who have kept our doors open and programs running through this pandemic. We’re also very grateful for the goodwill and partnership YEP has with NOPD’s Chief Ferguson and Captain Bax of the 6th District.”
