Zola Jesus and Japanese Breakfast

Zola Jesus

Wednesday night Nika Roza Danilova brings her Zola Jesus project to Gasa Gasa.  Just last week I was talking about the excellence of her latest release, Okovi.  Here is a chance to see her in person.  I am a bit bummed that the show has moved from Siberia to Gasa Gasa in that Siberia would be the perfectly moody environment for her music.  But the increase in venue size definitely indicates growing interest.  You will not want to miss this show.  Check out one of her live performances from 2015 below.

Japanese Breakfast at the Hi-Ho

On Wednesday, the Hi-Ho continued its excellent recent run of serious emerging talent with a stellar performance from Japanese Breakfast.  Michelle Zauner and company were in high spirits as they ripped through an hour of full intensity indie rock.  Zauner was all over the small stage and often out over and into the audience.  The lights on her sneakers gave her the appearance of gliding across the stage.  The set was a solid mix of tracks from the two Japanese Breakfast records with an emphasis on tracks from Soft Sounds from Another Planet.  The night ended with the one-two of “Everybody Wants to Love You” and “Machinist”.  Zauner was in great form and had the audience completely enrapt.  It was nice to see a full house after their last show in New Orleans was so lightly attended.
